Sketches from Week 13 (June 3 - 9, 2013)

School's almost out! Such a bummer... just as we were getting warmed up :)) Nathaniel from Architecture for Humanity, Brandon and I sat in on some critiques with the spatial studies classes and said a few good-byes...

Speaking of warming up, things are getting very very hot with our 11th hour preparations for the Electric Daisy Carnival...

The Good: I think I've got a great team. So anything's possible!

The Not-So-Good: My container for the project is stuck in customs limbo in the port of Long Beach, which represents half of my total bamboo material needed for EDC.  So... plan B:  we started taking apart the ranch, mining everything we could to amass a few hundred bamboo poles. Additionally, Willie from KoolBamboo in Miami is sending me a few hundred more, hopefully arriving by Monday morning in Vegas...

And so it goes... 1200 + poles... can't just roll them out all over the field so we welded up some custom steel cradles to organize everything. I'm sure these things will be getting some serious mileage over the years...

Other events: Omari and RayRay helped me set up the irrigation lines for the bamboo plantation... it's starting to get hot out so it's time to get serious about activating those water storage tanks. I've got about 3000 gallons stored right now, from the winter rains. Hopefully that will be enough for 4-5 months of watering for the drought-tolerant golden boo and old hamii. (Fingers crossed)

What are we doing at Lightning in a Bottle this year? The Bamboo Stage, of course! Any drawings for it yet? NO! But I am helping Dream and Pluma with the Healing Sanctuary, which has been a fun diversion... this ought to be a wonderful space, I have a good feeling about healing...

I don't think I want to talk during the festival so I'm planning on setting up Bamboo Soccer... which can be played at night, too! Yea! Who's in??? Bamboo goalposts, of course ... looks like we'll put it behind the Woogie stage, in one of those beautiful grassy fields...

So bring your cleats and bamboo shin guards. If you don't know how to make a pair of bamboo shinguards, weeeeell... I've never made them, either. But why not?

Alright... on to EDC... more later-
